I’ve had the Dell XPS 9570 for almost 4 years and recently the indicator light started continuously blinking amber/orange.

A lot of the search results pointed at the battery. In my case, that couldn’t have been it because I changed it only recently.

If the laptop is turned off, it takes a few tries to turn it back on.

During one of those tries I noticed that the hardware clock had reset. That leads me to strongly believe that it’s the CMOS battery that’s dead. That also fits because they typically last 4-5 years, so it’s just on time.

I haven’t had the chance to replace it yet, but if you have this issue it might be worthwhile trying that.

The battery is just a normal CR2023. So that was not correct even though the manual said it was. It’s a wrapped one that you have to buy but seems relatively standard. So, this remains unproven.
